My Son

I guess I am a little late on this post. But to be totally honest, I have been absolutely dreading this. I feel like by posting this, it makes everything official! Yikes! My son, my son, my only one, turned 9 last Friday. Every year I struggle with the idea of my children getting older, but for some reason it is A LOT harder with Caden. He is my only son AND the oldest... everything is new territory here!!

Anyway, I just want you all to know what an amazing kid I have. I hope some day he will be able to look back on these birthday blog posts and read about what a great boy he was... and is. Caden is such a kind, considerate, respectful person and he helps out with almost everything. He is talented and smart and funny and handsome!!! I LOVE this boy with my whole life.

Some of my favorite memories of Caden:
Year 1- Throwing a baseball across the room when he was like 9 months old
Year 2- Screaming at the top of his lungs when I accidentally put his sock on upside down
Year 3- Helping soooooo much with little sisters
Year 4- Riding a bike like a big kid
Year 5- Starting kindergarten
Year 6- Playing organized baseball for the first time
Year 7- Reading at a 10 year old level
Year 8- Deciding to be baptized and join the church
Year 9- Continuing to be the BEST kid on the block

Every other year we do a birthday party with friends and games and prizes and themes. But on the off year, we do a "date" with mom and dad and birthday kid. This is the "date" year and we are going to dinner and the aquarium because Caden is on a total shark kick. I can't wait to spend that special time with my very special son.

Buncha City Folk

It totally cracks me up that my city kids get sooooo excited EVERY SINGLE time we see a wild animal. When we drive out to my moms house we see hundreds of cows and horses. My kids exclaim the whole way...
"Mom, did you see the black one?"
"Awwww, look at all the baby cows!"
"Mom, can we pllleeeaaseee stop and feed the horses?"
"WOW! Look how close that cow is to the fence!!!"
I seriously laugh out loud at how excited they are. So, you could imagine the total frenzy that ensued when we found a family of deer that have been living on our street for the winter. EVERY TIME we see them...
"They are soooooo cute!"
"Oh.... where did the baby go? Is he lost? Oh there he is. They are sooooo cute!"
"LOOK MOM OUR DEER ARE EATING OUR TREE!!!!"
"Can you believe we are so lucky that we have the deer by our house"
"LOOK at them run... they are soooooo cute!!"
"Lets put food out for them." (No... totally illegal)
"What if they starve, mom?"
"Are they too cold outside?"
"They are soooooo cute!!!"
Hahaha! I totally love my city kids! They really are cute animals, but seriously? EVERY TIME we see one, my children's faces light up. Now, slamming on my brakes to let a family of deer pass has a whole new meaning. Not only do I not want my car trashed, what would my kids talk about ALL the time?

Saviors love in January

So one of my resolutions was to post regularly on my blog. So in addition to the going ons of our family, I am going to post once a month how I know my Savior loves me.

This month... I know my Savior loves me because he has blessed me with an amazing family!! My family is so different, yet we work great together and it really does seem like we compliment each other so well. We have been blessed with good health, a roof over our heads, food on our table, and so many other things.

Brian and I will be married for 10 years in April. I can't save everything has been perfect, but it has been absolutely amazing!!! I have learned so much about sharing, giving, compromising, and LOVE. We are different people and yet we are able to create common goals and share common dreams.

I am so grateful for my colorful, fun filled, humorous, crazy, loveable, beautiful, caring, positive, intelligent, and amazing family!!!
